Hewling St
The area to be designed was a grass hill with a small tree in the middle. The only prerequisite from the client was it had to have plants for picking as she is a florist and she was going to add the garden ornaments. I had to take into account seeing the garden design from the courtyard and also above from the house. With help from High Country Earthworks we created steps curving down to a large courtyard under the tree with a rock retaining wall. A creek was created to run out from the retaining wall and curve down to the bottom of the garden over a stone creek bed to create movement and sound. Then another set of steps down to the bottom garden below. The site access for the digger was tricky so due to a very wet winter the garden had to go on hold for a few months till the digger could safely get down again. Sitting down in the courtyard is such a pleasure listening to the native birds and the creek running past and as the tree and plantings grow bigger there will be larger shade areas.
